1971 Chrysler Newport Custom 383, rebuilding in Europe

The "after-party" cruises take place in Lidkoping in the evenings. Thousands, upon thousands of mint condition us cars cruise the streets, all day and mostly all night. A town of 15k people is taken over for a few days. The mian event "Power Big Meet" takes place a few miles outside of town on an airfield. Over 20 000 classic US cars and over 200 000 spectators during 3 days.

The next day, we will head to the airfield. During the next 2 nights, the cruises will take over Lidkoping.
Our Newport, will also take part - this is the perfect test for the cooling system of the car, and the speed is mostly stop& go traffic :) The town residents all go outside on the lawns, entire families in all age groups have picnics and watch the cars go by. Really cool, awesome atmosphere and spirit, and everyone is very welcoming. At night the parties start.

The event days @ the airport, & later evening cruiuses in Lidkoping.

U can't really see it in the pictures, but to get into the airport there were 5 lanes, and they would be queing for 2-3 hours. Over 20k cars. During the 3 days, there were over 200 000 spectators. Huge.

One day when we were leaving, we took a different route, and the asphalt was melted from the heat of the sun and all the v8s that were driving 1mph due to the traffic. We always left very late in the evening, so less cars, but had to take it real slow not to splash the paint with melted tarmac!

One day on the airport a fellow came up to me, he remembered me from the forum. Had a nice chat. He drove from Holland in his fuselage ! Cool! Cheers by the way!

There were about 8 rows of car, lined up all the way to the tree line at the end! Crazy.

Evening cruises. The whole town center was taken over. Thousands of cars cruising all night long. Some days we would cruise, others we would stroll the boulevard with some beers :) Awesome parties.

Way back home. No problems. MPG was great, coud almost go 450miles on one tank of gas. Around 16,9 MPG. Speed set @ 63 MPH 90% of the time on cruise control.

Encountered problems? None whatsoever. Topped up the oil with 1qt every 800miles.

Parts we had just in case: lots of tools
* alternator
* ballast resistor
* complete distributor with ignition module
* spark plugs

We already booked a hotel for next year. But this time we'll probably take a different route, through Gdansk , ferry -> Stockholm. We'll catch 2 meets, one near Stockholm and the second @ Lidkoping.

Another idea for next year is to go to the US, to Colorado, and cruise to Utah Bonneville Salt Flats for speed week, San Francisco & back. Of course in a Mopar. A have an itch for a Plymouth Duster, inline6 , 3 speed auto, nice & simple, "cheap" cruiser. Good on gas. Then take it back to Poland :)

Recent updates, installed a everco nos water valve for the heater , works like a charm. Other than that, just rollin' on the miles. I've done over 10k since the rebuild, and going strong.

The engine burns about 1qt of oil every 700miles, is this normal?

A quart per 1000 miles seems excessive to me. I drive a 318 powered fury III and it uses hardly any oil. It has about 3k on the rebuild.

I've really had this issue from the start. Used to it by now, but was wondering...

I do have a rear main seal leak, i guess i should look into this at some point in time.
 
I registered the car on classic plates. Now i have a valid lifetime national technical safety check, and cheap insurance. On normal plates, u have to safety check the car every year which is a niusance.

Anyway, i do a regular service checkup each spring, and also check important bits as suspension, steering, and brakes.

Car runs flawlessly.

Visited my brother, he recently bought a Challenger - nice ride, but very cramped inside.

Recent update. Had the car Krown rust protected , including closed profiles and crevices - the rocker panels had 2 holes drilled under the sill panels to get access. The doors have water channels underneath so no need to drill.

Had mixed feelings about doing it, but since i put a lot of miles on the car i reckoned it's worth it.

Recently had the rear leaf springs removed, and hammered at a metal shop in order to get a more "banana" shape, in order to raise the rear. It was sagging, and with more people on board/ or a bicycle rack on the back, the rear was just too low.

Here are before and after pics. Full tank of gas. Much nicer in the last pic, after hammering.

Gonna remove them again to install polurethane bushings which are being custom made, the 4 year old rubber ones fell apart.

Had new polyurethane bushings made for the leaf springs. The PST ones fell apart after 4 years, during dissasembly.
