I was reading in the manual about changing the lower ball joints (stop the presses I already know about Craig for parts). It said to unscrew the adjustment on the torsion bars. I did this job once over 20 years ago, but I don't recall messing with the adjustment for the torsion bars. Could've I done it without releasing the tension on the torsion bars? What would've happened if I hadn't released the tension?

Thanks

If you put jack stands under the lower control arms, you can do it without cranking the t-bars down.

Obviously, you need to put the stands out as far as possible.

The FSM recommend undoing the tosion bars as a safety precaution.
It is the " right" way but you do not have to do it.

As long as the lower control arm is supported, the wieght of the car is enough while you swap out the lower ball joint.
Also a small ratchet strap helps just in case..lol
