Another project

Hell The joints were even the weak link in the half tons back then. I’m amazed these ones lasted this long.

Carli suspensions makes an upgraded super heavy duty set, that is supposed to cure any, and all ball joint troubles on these trucks. I can’t swallow the $900 price tag that comes with em though!! Hopefully the new normal replacements last as long as these did lol

Im amazed at how well the truck was driving as well, after getting all of this apart!

My buddy must have been trying to kill me. I got the center caps off on the wheels. 2 lugs were just hanging out in the cap. Every lug nut of both wheels was only finger tight!! Amazing a wheel didnt come off. I was driving this thing daily for 2 weeks at least....

Thank you!!
I'm glad you got to this before something tragic happened.

I need to do that to my '98 2500 with the other 5.9l engine. And swap transmissions and might as well do the u joints and rear axle that need attention too.

I need to get some axle U joints still, as well. Amazing how many things you might as well replace while the wheel is off lol

I installed the SpynTec hub kit on my '01. Had to do ball joints anyway, I went with the XRF's. View attachment 190747

Nice!! Was reading a couple forums where guys were using old junkyard ford parts to do the swap. I like the idea, but never been a fan of locking hubs myself.

Being the cheap sob I am, I ordered the parts off 1aauto. Had some amazing deals on bundle kits of the parts I needed.

Did all I could do today. Painted a couple more parts after cleaning. Awaiting the new stuff to come in from the postman...

Yep, the joint and the shaft, all in one. When o got the truck my friend was excited he got the front end rebuilt for $400. I later told him he got brakes for $400. Lasted me three years light duty hauling stuff in town and nearby. I'll get to it some day. Gotta focus on the old cars and truck first, a man's got to have priorities!

Finally got the old tank back on the road!

New-
Ball joints
Hubs
Shocks
Sway bar bushings, and end links
Rotors turned
And new brake pads

Feels much better going down the road. Ill get some new tie rods here in the soon future to finish it off.

So are you going to just leave it alone and drive it or is a paint job in it's future?????

I believe this one is going to get raptor lined after a littlebody work. Much cheaper then a full blown repaint, and a lot more durable.

They sell it in a tintable versions as well, and claim it has a real good UV protectant in it.

Thinking either an olive green, or gray.

Seems pretty popular with the jeep crowd.

My buddy just sent me these pcs tonight. He hasa dash for me from another friend, that has had it sitting up ij the rafters of his barn for the last 15 or so years. He parted out a truck back then, and has had this ever since. Needs a cleaning big time, but is a crack free northern dash!! He is coming down the first week of july, so should have it then

Pink... be different :poke:

Did they put 15" rims on that?

High flotation tires. With that combo, if you bog down, you deflate the tires and get out of what would have been definitely a no-go situation. Reinflate when on solid surface again.

But he's obviously a wannabe. Biggest obstacle that truck will ever encounter will be the owner's Napoleon Complex.

cant do it!
Thank you.!!!!!!!!!!!

I know about the low pressure when wheeling, I just would have thought a larger rim would be available.

Jake showed up with the new dash the other day. Got her all buttoned up today, after a good cleaning. Damn what a difference!

The “new” dash is in amazing shape for having sat in the loft of a barn the last 20 years. Has a couple tiny rub marks, but can’t even see em. Had to clean out the mouse nests, and what not out of the glove box/vents. I transferred the wiring harness, and other bits over from the old one. Also bought a couple pieces for it off of ebay.

Tried using the factory radio that came with the truck, but it is toast. Went out and got a new jvc head unit today. Speakers sound pretty decent for being as old as they are.

While the kick/sill panels were out, I noticed the underside of the carpeting was soaked. Peeled it back to see some corrosion, and atleast one small pin hole in the floor... Every F-ng vehicle!!!

So have a new carpet on order. Planning to pull the old one, and deal with the floor next weekend. Hoping to just weld up a couple pin holes, then trear, and paint the floor. Need to find out where the water is coming from.

Was a nice excuse to get a new carpet for her though. The current one is pretty nasty.

Here is a before shot of the old dash (or what was left). It disintegrated into dust as soon as I got all the duct work, and wiring out of it. All thats left is the metal frame.

Discovered that the vin tag for the dash is missing. Was hoping it was just hiding under the dash cap that was on it, but it is MIA. I installed the new dash without a tag for now.

Wondering if I can get a new tag for it?

Carpet showed up today. Looks good in the box!

Got the interior gutted tonight. It is not pretty! But luckily, it seems to look worse then it really is. Still solid, just scaly.

Didn’t end up finding any goodies under anything either. Damn!

I take it that you're not at Carlisle this year either Zack? If you liked the purple that I shot on the Scamp that you saw last year lemme know. It'z ah 50X50 blend of '89 Dodge Black Cherry Metallic and '91 Chrysler Amethyst Metallic and it's ah 2 stage shoot. I have the paint #s on both colorz if you get serious Pal. Jer

Yea, no Carlisle for us this year unfortunately. Too many irons in the fire. Hopefully next year!

I love the color on the scamp! I had missed your thread, and had to go look for it. Damn nice!

For the ram, I’m still between 2 colors. Green, or gray. I think gray is out though, due to the interior color. Don’t think they will jive together all too well....

The dash above came from our old buddy in clinton. He had it stored away in his barn for forever! Can’t thank him enough for it. Him, and Jake are still working on Jakes warlock, out at his shop. Jake has sticker shock as he just got the quotes back from the paint shop. The bodywork is done, and is ready for some color.

Made a little headway tonight. Removed the tar sound deadener, and wire wheeled the floor. Welded up the few pin holes, and treated it with the leftover metal blast from rust bullet. Can really see it doing its thing, treating, and etching the rust. The floors almost white! lol

Ill let it soak overnight, and get her painted tomorrow.
