Morning from Good Ol' Germany,

I have to confess something...but I can explain it! A few weeks ago we wanted to go to a swap-meet in our area. The evening before I checked all the fluids and went to the gas station for the most important fluid. Car ran fine, shifted fine, brakes worked fine. The next morning, I went out of the garage and - no brakes whatsoever. Nothing. Pedal on the carpet. And within three seconds:

OK, hood and front bumper need some work, but the right front fender looks horribly wrinkled. So I'm looking for one - including the wheel house (or wheel arch, fo the landlubbers ).

Bummer... very sorry you went through that... at least the humans survived and the car can be repaired.

I'm guessing you have a single pot master cylinder. The total failure of your brakes is why so many of us encourage the upgrade to a newer "dual chamber" M/C. I would not be surprised if you found a ruptured line, but a master cylinder or wheel cylinder failure would have similar effect.

FWIW, a dual chamber master cylinder may not have saved you in that low speed accident. At speed, with zero brakes would be scary as hell (I have never experienced this). With a dual chamber, the pedal would be close to the floor and only half your brakes would function, but you could eventually stop (I have "enjoyed" this several times).

Wood probably wouldn't be much more forgiving to the car... but would have been easier to find matching materials for the house repairs.

"Dual chamber MC" was the first thing I thought after crashing into the wall. Well, not the first thing, also not the second...but before I got out of the car, I knew, this will be installed:

$163 euro seems like a lot of money to pull this off. read the articles on this forum about swapping brake stuff - I think we can get this done cheaper than $163 in the ad you posted.

it looks like a drum/drum MC, a couple of new brake lines, and a prop valve.

i say you can for sure get this cheaper than $163 euro - even with shipping it to FDR.

Nah, I'm not gonna do that myself. When it's done, it should look better than now......! And if a used part is cheaper than the work (coachbuilders eat from golden plates over here), It's better to buy one.

I would have the front pulled back into shape even if I were to replace the fender. The new fender will then bolt into place.

Replacing the master is pretty easy. I'd use a dual M/C from a 67 and up Chrysler. There's no proportioning valve in these systems. They did use a distribution block with a warning light, and it does make the plumbing a little easier if you use one.

I agree, a good frame man should be able to pull that fender out pretty easily.

BTW: I'm searching the whole net for the fender and find...nothing. Anyone an idea for a good scrapyard?
