Long live the Admiral.

HA HA, Wait 'til you see my Plymouth pickup at Carlisle if you wanna see WARPED, UH-RAH. Jer
That's different! One of my first trucks was a dodge d-50 that was retired from a company that basically only used to carry lengths of strut in bundles... the little s*** held up swimmingly!

Strut channel - Wikipedia

Basically a prefab steel framing system consisting of lengths of Strut channel, angle connectors, and post bases. Used in many industries like electrical, plumbing .. you name it .. built a trailer frame and a go cart out of it in my lifetime.

Strut channel comes in, say 10' lengths at 50 pc per bundle at 1lb per foot... so 100 per length .. 50 lengths = 5000lbs in the back of a Dodge D-50 (mitsubishi) .. pretty impressive for a lil guy.

Better check your math. They aren't 100 lb per length.:poke:

haha.. wrote that up quick.
Still, 10lbs per length, 50 pc per bundle, 500 lbs per bundle .. they would easily get 6 bundles in the truck so 3000 lbs... still pretty impressive.

Well, had you said strut channel.... :poke:
:p

I'd take either, cheap registration and relibility of a axe, when used up no regard for sending it to Bone yard to be made into more.
No argument there... just have a little family grudge with the Subaru part of this. Volvo was always good to us.

I call my bare-bones F150 a Bic Lighter.
Yours is a truck, not a car without a trunk lid and a double the cost registration.

I just laugh at these DB that go to home store with a $50,000 truck and have blankets in the bed for a dozen bags of mulch. The only other crap it has had in the bed is a cooler and luggage, wouldn't want to put that in anything else.
@ Shooter65 2-3 kids and dragging around a 26' trailer sounds like take your kid to work day to me.:poke:

IMO...
This would be a fun, but not very useful vehicle for me... Not great for towing, not great for hauling... but a sweet convertible.

I'm with Will, priced right... this would be just about perfect to tow/haul with... with A/C and seats that still have foam in them... a nice enough cruiser as well.

This would be almost as good... but my inner cheap bastard would never be able to reconcile having to buy 2 extra tires I never felt the need for.

If any of those was to become my next dream truck, I would like a LA engine too... I believe it would be slightly more practical and if I was to drive her on big highway trips it wouldn't be too hard to give her an overdrive auto. A 4 speed wouldn't hurt my feelings either.

Of course I'm not shopping for myself, and the old bowtie beater in the driveway handles my P/U needs guilt free... even if I decide to drop a tree on it or something. The DD Burb lost A/C this week. so I might spend a minute or two looking into why the P/U doesn't work... been a couple years of not being concerned with it, and still not interested in spending much to repair it. Work is paying for me to do a junkyard run on Monday... may as well make a shopping list.

I hope Will doesn't mind me keeping this thread off track a little longer, but I see the practical aspect of a subaru or volvo as a DD if you fear that 1 inch of snow. Both have good enough reputations... But would be a dull axe IMO. I haven't worked on either brand often enough or recently enough to form my own opinions about them. Other than IDK if I would like the parts bills at maintenance/repair time.

Most newer P/Us are a complete waste in my mind, but I can't spend that kind of cash on a vehicle and still get to own old stuff. Every payment would cause a bleeding ulcer or brain hemorrhage for me... I know I'm not the typical consumer though. I will scratch/dent/crush a bed/cab/bumper so I'm out when it comes to a really nice truck.

I'm with you on this, I really do not understand pick up trucks never have never will and as the price goes up it gets more baffling.
I'll take that dull axe any day and when the handle does break I'll take the head throw it on the scrap bin and go get another.

Both like and agree...

Down here, as long as you register a light GVWR, they don't cost more to register... My C2500 is registered light, but the DMV doesn't care unless you get weighed too heavy... and the only scales a P/U will cross is at the dump.

The few that came through shops I worked at, they were there for a certain mileage check up, per Subarus warranty I believe, and there were never any issues. And the mechanics always said they never repaired anything more than the filters and brakes. That always surprised me. No, I'm not trying to sell anyone on these cars, just relating my experiences.

subarus leak oil, burn oil, melt cats, burn clutches in transfer cases, generally disintegrate. paid $650 for an '04 xc70 two years ago for missus. she loves it. cruises comfortably at 90mph, big mirrors for passing, great seats and hvac, rain sensing wipers, etc. never thought i could be a fan volvo station wagons.

A friend is loaning me a 05 Ram crew cab to make the Carlisle trip. So the pressure is off for that. Carlisle may offer up something nice.

I road up to Crossville Tenn yesterday to visit my buddy Jim and look into the truck he said I could use for the trip to Carlisle. He has several and said I could choose. Back in one of his buildings was this 05 1500 that he had taken on trade, that I had not seen before. It was not insured or registered and he said he would take care of that on Monday.
We pulled it out and put it on a hoist to look it over. Drove it about 5 miles. It was owned by an 82 year old man and is immaculate. Could use tires and perhaps brake pads, (4 wheel disc's). The only thing I could find wrong with the truck is that it is black. It has all the right equipment without going overboard including the towing package.
Well, one thing led to another, The reasonable and practical side of me came out, and I bought the truck. And Jim took care of me price wise.

The truck I needed on several levels. No pressure to find the right replacement for the Admiral. Which could still happen at Carlisle, just can't count on that.

A couple of pictures.....
