I don't know what it is that people who visit museums or similar protected sights do not understand about don't touch. When in college, 1974, the environmental science class went down to a protected marine area off Scripps to practice laying out squares to count animal types and quantity. While there we see someone starts to walk off with a starfish and we ask what are you doing? I'm taking it home. No you are not and there is a whole class here watching.

In 1976 I am taking a guided tour of Versailles where an older American couple decides to walk under the ropes and off on their own. If you have ever seen the Place it is massive like Westminster if not bigger. They said they paid their money and would go where ever they wanted. Told the guide who later told me they were escorted off the grounds by security.

In 2018 went to Valley of Fire north of Las Vegas. There are monuments of sandstone which seemed incredibly balanced at times. Erode easily under wind and rain. So here we have people climbing all over them to take pictures of their kids. One man says there are no signs prohibiting. I say maybe you should read the handout where they spell out staying off you idiot. Apparently people can't read any longer.

So I heard one month ago that Pri-Fly aboard the Hornet was closed because an overhead glass panel was broken. It would now stay closed till further notice as glass was falling off the laminated panel little piece by little piece. Alan, a docent and former carrier Skyhawk pilot in the 60s and 70s wasn't happy. I said let's take it out ourselves and then I'll replace the glass. Little did I know which panel. Clearly hit by something. Got it out but next weekend Security stops me as I board and tell me there is another broken window. How, nobody can go in. It was the hatch window and being tempered it was hundreds a little cracks. However, four main cracks were visible and where they met that part was lower than the rest of the panel as though punched. So this makes me detour from what I am doing and work on this. Once up there I knew the whole area is going to need work whether broken glass or not so not a total loss in the end since no one else will go up/down there.

The hatch the next week. I do get to take things home from the ship to work on. Back and forth twice.

The overhead frame. All those nuts will need to be cut off. The bottom of the frame, where water collected since 1970, is gone. Turns out it is Z bar which our machinist volunteer can get made for us to repair. I asked how many feet and he said 18 feet as his truck can carry that. So we will get them to fab 36 feet to our specs so we can make a whole new frame and them some for other possible replacements I discover up there. The glass will be tricky as it is 1/4" green tinted laminate.

Frame was to be this Saturday but I may get delayed by a break through Covid infection. So I will have had Alpha asymptomatic in December, Pfizer vaccination in February, and now slightly symptomatic Delta. This Friday will tell.

I am grateful that you are working on this piece of history. It’s a shame that others don’t have the wherewithal to be respectful.
Thank you!

Just a result of an entitled people, generally younger, but always entitled people.

Are you per chance in your 60s at least like me. Funny thing but when the older are asked about the younger the positive stuff they say is ambitious and smart. When asked what is negative, and actual polls have been done, the first word mentioned was entitled. No doubt has been used for a thousand years regarding the young. I know it was used towards me when I was 18 versus my father at 18 in the jungles of Leyte. Now I have been doing what I do for 41 years now and am just starting to see a fourth generation in the family. Gotta say the third generation, between 25-33, I saw when they were 3-16 years old and many have turned out great. Even if not working in the area some, when they come home, stop by to say hi to me or to have their exam with me even though they live a 1000 miles away. Granted their are assbites in every gen but for the most part most are fine so I try to keep my mind open.
