The Bluesmobile

Sanded it all down, and got it covered in some primer

Then came the passenger inner fender,

This one was a huge pain in the a$$! Very heavily surface rusted. Went through 5/6 wire wheel's, and still is not completely perfect. The rust should be kept at bay now though, and hopefully wont show it's ugly face again.

Then came the paint. Put atleast 6 coats on. The paint I'm using is very sensitive to humidity. I painted then on a day when there was barely any humidity, and they still have a few blemishes, and spots that need attention. Gonna sand them down one more time, and shoot another coat on when the weather permits it.

Still need to undercoat them. What are you guy's using for undercoating? I was thinking of using a truck bed liner, but would also like to keep it close to how it was stock. Dont want to spend a fortune on stuff though either...

After the inner fender's were done, moved on to the core support. Same deal here, wire brushed it clean, then some sanding and primer.

Did a final sanding, then layed some paint down. This will be the new paint the car will be painted with. Dont think it came out bad for cheap paint! This stuff should hold up better then what's on the car now.

I'm going to have to do mine this fall. Cosemetically, it's the worse looking part of my NY'er.

I hear you 1978 NYB. I can't open my hood at car shows neither lol. Hopefully like you, I can change that soon!

Sorry polara71. Nothing is installed yet. As I mentioned I have a set of 76 fenders to hopefully cut patch panels off of for my fenders. I got a buddy who said he is going to help me and weld them on. Hopefully teach me how to weld, so when I am comfortable after doing the fenders I can attack the rear end (trunk pockets/quarter panels). It will probably be in a few months. He is pretty busy in his line of work during the summer months. Hopefully can get him sometime this fall/winter. Right now just playing the waiting game, and gathering parts. Would like to replace all the rubber/bushings in the front along with the metal. Take the whole clip apart, and what not.

I do have a couple other pictures I can share... I cleaned, and painted my power steering cooler

Also cleaned up, and painted my police torsion bars. These were a lot nicer then I thought they were! The car they came from was pretty crusty underneath. However these were covered in grease, and road grim. I think that is what saved them. After cleaning the 30 years of gunk away, the bars were rust free, and solid. Put some paint on them and set them aside with the rest of the parts.

The blumo might have led me to another project. Was looking through the local cruise new magazine yesterday, and found a car show that was going on a half hour away last night. The girlfriend and I loaded up in the car and headed out. The show was not the greatest... Mostly GM's and fords, with a hand full of mopars. Anywhase late on in the night a guy approaches me asking if I owned the car. He then goes on to tell me how he has a sister car to mine, a 73 4dr fury. I ask him if it is for sale, he says yes. He then tells me his son also has a car for sale. A 1970 plymouth fury 111 convertable. I told him I would love to see that one to.

Later on after the show we went to the guy's house. There sat the fury convertable. Car was bought some year's ago by his buddy, who started to take her apart to redo. The guy got sick, and could not continue. So Butch (guy from the car show) bought it for his son. He piddled around with it a little bit, but is getting ill himself. Does not have much interest in finishing it. The car seems to be all there. I was not able to get any pictures, as it was 10pm, and the car was crammed into a small one car garage. It is a 383 car, with black bucket seat interior, center console, and A/C. I loved it!! It had a little bit of rust around the trunk lip, the center of the trunk floor, and a tiny bit on the quarters behind the rear wheels.

We then went and checked out the 73. Car was very clean!!! 4dr 73 fury.360 2brl carb. Has a/c and does work with original r-12. He bypassed the pressure switch as it is not working. Put a switch under the dash, and the a/c blows ice cold. Car is green, white viynal top with white interior. Every receipt on everything/anything done to the car is in plastic in a folder. Was very impressive. Again sorry I could not get pictures. Seemed to have a tiny bit of bondo in the quarter's, with a repaint. But done pretty well. Paint matched good and what not. Was asking $4,000.

I was/am real interested in the convertable. Told him dont have much $$ to play with, but have my newport I could trade him. Guy didn't seem real interested at first, but showed him some picture's, and that seemed to peak his interest. Sent him an email full of picture's waiting to here back from him. Wish me luck guy's! Would love to get a hold of it!!

Well the deal above did not pan out. Guy decided he did not want the car because of the sunroof. Life goes on, Im happy to have my car back anyway lol.

Was able to get a few things for the bluesmobile during the trip up north. Mostly prop type stuff. Stopped by a buddy's place on another forum in GA. He to owns a bluesmobile. Got to check the car out and get a few things from him. My dumb self neglected to get any interior shots though.....

Was a nice guy! Got a thermoquad carb, a rear defrost switch, some emlbems, and he threw in some props.. A Budweiser can, and some un used chesterfield cigg wraper's from the factory, to try and get on another pack. All this to go on the dash when I have the time.

I got the defrost switch installed yesterday. The light behind it was not working at first, then decided to start working last night... Maybe my luck is turning around?? lol
P210812_1902_01.jpg

At first I did not want the whole rear defrost setup, as the switch was just for looks, but now that I have it installed I'm kicking myself in the *** for not getting it, as he had it there. The plate that screws to the rear deck was pretty bent up, but might have to hit him up and get it..

The finishing touch was the black knob for the slider control for the heat-a/c. He had a few control units lying around, and was able to get a know from him.

Got my chesterfield cigarette packs made up, along with some other prop's for the dash. Took a few hours to make, but in the end have 3 brand new "used" cigarette packs lol. I know this is not really car/c-body related, but goes along with the car.

P310812_1809_01.jpg

The magnet's are used to help keep them in place on the dash during evasive maneuveres.
P310812_1845.jpg

Along with the cigarette packs, I made up some of the buisness, and credit card's seen in the movie.
P310812_1850_01.jpg

As well as the bill of sale for the bluesmobile (not seen in the movie, but is in the BB's private book)

The dash is getting there.

Need a few more thing's, and another Budweiser can.

The hardest part was mustering up the courage to crush the can for the dash... It was in such good pristine shape! But it had to be done...

The big news is I finally found one of the biggest piece's to the puzzle that I have been looking for for 6/7 years! Thanks to another forum, I found an NOS passenger side fender!!!
 :yaayy: :beavisnbutthead:

It was spotted on craigslist. Sent him a check this morning. Send him the rest for shipping thursday. I can't wait!!

I have been on the look out for these thing's forever! All the ones I have come accross have either already sold, are way out west, and cost stupid $$, or complete garbage (rust/dented away) Now I just need to find a driver's side one.

Why is the cigarette lighter in the car?

Oh and your nuts. Nice job, I appreciate the commitment . Like Stan said detail is amazing.

Thank you guy's! The small detail's definitely keep it fun, and interesting.

Well, Elwood had to fix the cigarette lighter for it to become the bluesmobile.... lol No I try to take it out at the shows, however I do use it quite a bit. Can never seem to keep a good lighter around...

I figured while Im waiting for my fender to show up, I might as well get the rest of the car ready for it... Been pretty busy the last couple weeks. Atleast when the rain would let me work.

Pulled the car in and started prepping it, removing trim, door's, and what not.

After most the body work was done, pulled the door's and sprayed the roof. Did not come out as glossy as I thought it would.. but still does the job.

After the roof, finished sanding/priming the body, and then paint.

Paint came out better then what I thought it would. Still has a gloss to it, yet not "to" glossy. Also still looks like $hit which is what Im going for..

While the paint was drying, did the door's. Then started putting the car back together.

The door's gave me the hardest time. The weather did not want to cooperate, and kept having something happen to them while they were drying. I kept having to remind myself "its supposed to look like #hit". So finally had enough, and put em back on.
