Sure Grip, reverse and brake light demo: MVI 2845
Documented, garaged, very clean vehicle, which starts, runs and drives as a 37,xxx mile car should. Body has no rust, dents or dings. Car has matching broadcast sheet and fender tag (see pics), confirming the following: Original 440 4v – 350 hp (E85 code, date-coded 11-05-69), super rare Super Lite, A/C, dual exhaust, 15” Road wheels, 727 trans, Sure Grip 8.75 rear, Rallye suspension w/fr. Sway bar, cruise control, tilt wheel, power steering (3.5 turn lock-to-lock), bench seat, windows, door locks, trunk release, pwr disc brakes, HD radiator, AM/FM 4 speaker stereo, cornering lamps, hood t/s indicators, rear defroster (fan- not wires in glass), pedal dress-up, clock, undercoating, woodgrain instr. panel, and glove box light.
I acquired from gentleman [PO1] who owned it since 2004, and always garaged it. The title is marked as “actual” miles, and for the 2004 transfer it indicated 35,xxx. Odometer works, and now shows 37, xxx. PO1 got it from “his” PO [PO2] who had stored it inside for years. I don’t doubt the mileage based on how the car drives and the fact that the suspension hasn’t been rebuilt.
The 440 appears original from air cleaner to oil pan, which PO1 said was never opened on his watch nor PO2’s. Floors, trunk and undercarriage are rot-free, although there are very small holes in some of the trunks stamped low-spots. Drain plugs still present in fully intact inner quarter extensions.
Deviations from originality are the top and gears: The top was green vinyl from the factory, but it needed to be replaced when PO1 got it. PO1 didn’t want it, so he had it removed and the whole car painted. The re-paint was for the top change rather than the rest of the car, and I have pics from 2004 confirming the car’s cleanliness. The re-spray still is nice and shiny without any major blemishes, and I can’t detect any collision work. PO1 said the only work the body needed was at the bottom of one fender. PO1 swapped out the factory 2.76 gear set in favor of the 3.23s that are in it but kept the Sure Grip intact (both wheels spin).
Recent (based on time and/or mileage) work includes: Re-cored HD radiator, new brake calipers, pads, hoses, cut rotors, new mufflers and heater core.
Things that could use attention: Carpets are faded and front seat fabric is torn. A/C needs O-rings and a charge; pwr seat, cruise, and trunk release don’t work; I bypassed heater valve in engine bay in favor of “heat” mode, as the vacuum line to it was off and plugged when I got it, so unknown if valve is good/bad. Flipping Super Lite switch does create a change in the headlights, but Super Lite doesn’t go on. Might be a bulb, and they’re available under $10 per a thread on this site. Speedo fluctuates and makes some noise, likely fixable with the lube service explained on another thread on the site, and the gear in the trans is for 2.76 gears, not 3.23. Gas gauge is temperamental, and appears to work better when the tank is fuller. There’s an exhaust manifold leak, more apparent at initial throttle pressure, and not bad just cruising. Right rear window not working. Has minor oil leak, which may be from rear driver side valve cover gasket. Currently has minor pwr steering leak, much improved with one Lucas sealant treatment – will continue to treat.
Price is $10,500 obo. I’m not averse to a long distance deal, as I’ve done them before as buyer and seller. If you’re going that route, you might consider having a pre-purchase inspection done.
