Another orphan found our driveway...

A little more loving going on..

We did get the truck running decent finally after installing the new electronic ignition (another thread). However still have a problem.

The 440 will fire to life on first hit of the key in the morning, or cold. However after a trip she doesn't want to fire back up until cool again. I tore the harness back apart thinking I had a bad connection somewhere. But no.. (need to clean the harness back up after toying with it, and testing things).

I've noticed when trying to crank her warm when she doesn't want to fire, if I return the key to the off position it'll barely spit a bit of life. Kinda like one cylinder fired briefly.

Maybe coil, or ignition switch? Coil is new, and doesn't seem to be getting hot while running.

We did drive her all the way to lulu FL (little over an hour ride) that Sunday after the turkey run. She did good. Went back to that truck yard, and picked up some more goodies. Mostly for a friend, but did get a few things.

Also got Sabrina a xmas gift of some new seats. The original seats are horrible. Not really my style but got her some seats, and console out of a '03 Tahoe. Both power seats. Figure when I do the metal work on the floor I'll get these to fit. Also get a tan seat cover to match a little bit better.

Sorry to hear about the Hot-no-fire problem. I missed your conversion thread. It sounds like a bad pick up in the Distributor to me, but I think you need to just go through the diagnostics when hot (do you have spark etc..).
I say bad Distributor because I bought a new Mopar conversion kit in te early 2000s and after the conversion the car would barely run and the Distributor (brand new- Chinese or Mexican crap?) was bad. I threw an old one (Solid old US part) on that I had from an old parts car (it had been sitting under the bench for years) and the car ran great from that day on.

BTW....does your wife have an available sister...?
That truck reminds me of the one Indrove when working for MODoT. 75 D300, 360 auto and 4.10 Dana, 16.5 split rims. That thing would carry the mail.
Looks like you have a couple keepers!

When you switched to the Electronic ign did you put on the new ballast resistor? In my opinion get rid of the wire nuts in the above photo and solder and heat shrink the wires. Use the good heat shrink with the wax like sealant.

The ballast is a spare I kept in the trunk of my Monaco for years. Never used, but is old. The kit came with a 2 post ballast. The truck was set up for the 4, so stayed with that.

Wire nuts deff not staying. Got tired of cutting wires to check em again. Once figured out what's going on they will be done proper again.

I do not believe I am getting any spark when hot, ruling out the dizzy. Didnt see any spark when holding the coil wire up to a ground.

Seen a lot about the pick up in the dizzy. Seems like a common problem. I do still have that old dizzy from the 440 in the blumo. Could give it a try.

No sister here.... lol! It's amazing how she turned out, compared to her mother.... but that's another tale. Lmao!

Zac, Run a hot wire from the bat + to the coil and try starting by jumping the relay, (key on). If she fires right up then you may likely need a ign switch.

Thanks will! I will give this a try when I get a min.

Looks like the Old girl will be going in to service soon. Sabrina's car (2005 Sebring) has been having the driver side front tire go flat every week or so. We went to take it off to run it up to the tire shop to be re sealed today. She got the jack under it, and started lifting it. Chunks of rusty frame started falling on the ground! The jack was bending the frame lifting it up. Jesus H!! We knew it was getting bad, but not this bad! I can grab the torque box and move it. Unbelievable. This thing must have been a flood car at some point. The body only has a few bubbles by the gas door.. ugh

Was this a common problem for sebrings? She's had it for around 4 years. It did come from IL...

Got the tire sealed. Hoping to off it soon, and put the $$ into the truck.

Holy crap. Did you buy it with a salvage title?
That's outrageous.

No it was a spur of the moment thing, that I was never really thrilled about. The last time the bluesmobile was on the road, we took a road trip up north. I dropped her off with her mother who lives in IL. I went to visit my family in MI. Sabrina was driving a beat old civic at the time. She got approved for a car loan, and was eager to buy a few weeks before we went on the trip. We visited a few lots around here, but everything was junk. She got tired of me saying no quick lol..

She had a week left on the approval on the loan while visiting her mother. And ofcoarse "mother is always right" they went out and bought this thing at one of the local dealers up there. She followed me back home with it down here.

First time I was under it, told her we need to coat it in something. Well that never happened. I gotta admit though, never thought it would go this quick.

Her mother is nice, but we don't see eye to eye on many things. She can't stand my cars. Even got to hear it today while Sabrina was telling her about her car.

She told Sabrina to take what little bit of money she could get out of the car, and go buy another beater. I say why in Sam hell would you do that, when you have this tuck sitting here that you've already poured some $$ into? Pour a little more in it, and make it road worthy.

Why buy someone else junk to pour $$ into?

The mother hates the truck, and see's it as a money pit. She told her look at all the $$ zac has poured into his cars, and they look no different.

I just have to stand back and shack my head. Sabrina is starting to see the light though. Slowly.... I'm trying lol

Sorry for the rant. Just gets old after a while...

:wideyed:

Don't see that up here every day...wow sorry to see man. Give me the VIN in a PM and ill tell you if its a flood car if you like.

Crazy isn't it?? Was talking to my dealer buddy up in MI about it. He said the rockers are prone to rotting, but he never saw an underside that looked like this either.

I'll have to get the VIN off of it. Thanks!

Has been a decent car other wise though. Had to replace rear struts, fuel pump, and wiring to emergency shut off switch. Other then that just oil changes.

I don't feel safe with her driving it now though.. it needs to go

2DR or 4DR Sebring? Either way I guess I haven't seen one that bad. I would guess it has seen it's share of road salt or a flood like you suggested.

I'm sorry. :(

Go ahead, jump on the train with everyone else... lol

Nasty isn't it?!?!

It's a 4 door. Deff seen some salt, but never one rust like this. It's only the structural metal. It's weird. The actual body isn't bad. Can see the floor boards are clean as well. Idk..

Got the cowl cover off to inspect the wiper situatuon. At least 3 bushings are MIA. The one rod was just laying in the cowl.

Getting the welder ready for another fun jaunt. Thinking of removing the drip rail completely, and welding the 2 roof skins together. The drip rail is completely rotted above the windshield.... also gotta tackle the floor boards, and other misc spots.

Think we picked out a new color. Atomic orange pearl. Think it will go good with the tan interior. Hoping to do a quick bodywork session, and get her painted... we will see.
