My Rust Repair job just got a lot easier!

Old Ziebart undercoat that was ready to scrape easily off down to the like new metal...

So the next challenge for me on this is that the spring perches on the front of the frame rails are 3" further back than my original frame rails.
Original is at 9" from the front of the frame rail.
The Fury rail is at 12"

I have to move them up so my springs will fit into place.
No biggie but time involved in gently drilling them out so I can move and re-weld into place.

I was tinkering with the idea of using Fury springs as it would firm the ride up with shorter leaf springs but then it means I would have to buy replacement springs too!

So I will move them to the proper position..

I never knew about the perches having different lengths.

I only took notice of it when I was getting ready to fab up the reenforcing plates that the ragtop use to strengthen the perch area.
The frame rail is identical otherwise..

So here are some close up shots of the top side of the frame rails.
I couldn't ask for any better...

All the support plates inside the rails look like brand new other than a bit of surface rust.

My furnace broke down so working in the garage is not as much fun.
I am going to try to hold out until the summer to find a replacement unit.

Great updates makes me want to get under Goldie and start cleaning up the bottom side. She won't be coming off the stub frame though. Nice work first class work.

Plugging away at the new frame rails. wire wheeling, sanding, cleaning and getting ready to re-weld the spring perches into place today.
After that the paint should be hitting most of the surfaces this weekend.
