new law for only 2 cars per driveway in minneapolis

I just read it, whoever finds this to be reasonable is an idiot....

Whoever finds this to be a good thing is part of the problem with the Country and the world and I politely ask you to leave.

I noticed it says "per dwelling unit". Well, if every driver lives in a different room, your could try to argue a case. Easier done with an actual apartment building, but that's my line of thought. We have too many liberals/socialists/progressives living in the Twin Cities metro area (75% of he states population, roughly).

Glad I live in farm country.

I’m too young to hate the direction that this world is going in as much as I do.

Hope the link works. From Jalopnik. The city will only allow 2 cars per driveway regardless of drivers living there

Another great reason NOT to live there...

Look and see what that does to your taxes...

If your going to classify a house as apartments, you will be hanging multiple mail boxes, paying a commercial rate on utilities, and probably end up at the LPI (License, permits, inspections) for zoning violations. All before you get to the tax part.

It's a mess. Resistance is so futile & ignorance is bliss. The service animals are my rant. People are bringing their dogs into restaurants with the ebay vests now & there is nothing that can be done. This crap started with the every kid gets a trophy, and now they are adults.

I agree that they are part of the problem simply because they have no ability to think things through. If someone has multiple cars that means all the more they will be spending to license, register, insure, repair, maintenance, and fuel them. They should be left alone. They are doing more than their share to support the economy.
If it's anything like our area the ordinance was written to target one specific area or maybe even person. Narrow minds at work.

"Vehicles may not be parked in yards or on unpaved surfaces; vehicles must be parked within the garage or on a hard-surfaced driveway.

No more than two vehicles per dwelling unit, with proper driveway surface, may be parked outdoors on a property. Excess vehicles may be towed."

I wonder what the unstated, underlying goal is? Could it be that this is a "green movement" trying to force bicycle/walking/public transportation on the masses of the city?

aaaYep... 'Comfort Animals' Went to WallyWorld a couple of weeks ago a little later in the day than I usually do, first noticed one senior, not a poof type but more working class retiree carrying (I guess) the wife's 'Dust Mop' dog in his arms, then past a more country club look'in retired couple with another ankle biter on a leash. No service vest at all. WTF?
New Year/New Law?
They've been pushing around here to bring they're pets anywhere they please.

Another time I past a fresh blow'in Hi-How-Do-You-Do type runn'in his yap want'in me to pet his dog (big black lab) 'F Your dog has mange mate I ain't touching that! MOVE ALONG GOOMF!

See the news last week about the Peacock comfort animal getting refused at the airport?

Reminds me of the lyrics to a Killing Joke song;
"Because out on the streets it's strange"
"To see the show"

Interesting. As a dyed in the wool car guy I’m outraged, yet as someone that had a neighbor that for all intents was starting a homespun salvage yard in his driveway, I can see it.

Many sub HOAs have a similar policy. Many with three stall garages still can’t park a car inside. I’m fine with all the cars you want that fit in your drive without blocking the sidewalk. Although they need to have current registration and tags in this city. Backing the car in your drive to hide the missing plate doesn’t fool the local ordinance nazis.

Great idea. Let's plug up the streets with parked vehicles, instead of driveways.

I guess I'd be in trouble when the relatives come visiting, last year there were 12 cars parked in the driveway and a couple motor homes parked in the street.

This is where I reluctantly chime in and state that I am one of those zoning regulators, but not in this city or state, and I don't know the background story on why this city did such a thing. I also admit that I am only at the whim of the code in most cases, obligated to regurgitate facts I often don't agree with. I try in my position to fix what I can, but that takes time and often political backing.

I can only guess that there are underlying reasons not discussed. Typically trying to regulate vehicles in the front yard (i.e. driveway) is usually 1 of 2 things...either to preserve property values from those persons that have inoperable vehicles, which modern day folks consider junk, or to curb excessive population and occupancy. Unfortunately it is typically targeting immigrant areas where having too many persons reside in a house are creating perceived negative effects on a community. By limiting the cars, you limit how many people can live in the house.

My community only has rules that the vehicle must be operable, and although "operable" means licensed, no flat tires, and no broken glass, we are pretty relaxed if there are no plates on the car. Where my community "gets you" is in a similar requirement that it be parked on hard surface. Many folks just decide to build a bigger driveway. Unfortunately, we limit that amount of your lot that can be covered to 35%, which translates to 65% of your lot must be open and landscape. We do this due to small lots and flooding issues. The community learned the hard way when we allowed someone to install a pool and patio on their backyard, only to have all the water in a rainstorm sheet off to the neighbor's basement. That neighbor was not very happy.

The worst is when I have someone that wants to expand the driveway because the kids are turning 16 and getting cars, and the only solution if they are already at 35% coverage is to find a bigger lot and move.

Please don't shoot me for being the bad guy.

We'll I guess this puts Minneapolis a step below New Jersey.....for now.
