Well I finally got my cone style suregrip unit rebuilt and assembled. I had a diff guy swap it into my 3.23's...so tonight it goes back into the wagon. But I have never had a cone style suregrip before and am unsure if I have to install a friction modifier? I wouldn't think so due to it using metal on metal contact to achieve wheel lock-up. As opposed to the clutch style units that use friction to help lock things up.

So do I need a friction modifier for a cone style suregrip???

I was just reading something about that and I believe it was in the service manual for my '71 which is at my shop. I'll be there later and take another look.

A friend over on one of my other forums told me that YES it has to have an additive. Regardless if it's a clutch style suregrip, or the metal on metal cones style suregrip.

Glad you got confirmation, I did scan the manual that I thought I saw it in and must have been mistaken. A lot going on right now...

You got it, always like to help where I can.
