Uncle Ray is going in for round 2

Got the big gap closed up and fitting a patch to finish up this side. Then I'll clean it us as best I can and seal it up. Got the old man a Christmas gift of ventshades that came in this morning.

No complaints from here. Looks good. Good to know that this can be done with a HF flux welder. I often wondered about how the results would turn out. Nice work.
Thank you! Yes it's possible especially when you dont feel like dumping a ton of money into a mig setup. It takes a bit of trial and error, but I'm finding using the max setting with a 2.75 - 3 on the wire speed and .030 wire is giving me the best results so far. I do get some burn through, but can go back and get it to fill in.

Started working on the rear cross member and it's coming together. I made a pattern out of what was left of the outer portion, don't know if it's 100% correct, but it seems like it will work out with very little tweaking.

That's a wrap for this section. I'm pretty happy how it came out considering my very basic selection of tools the HF flux core, ball peen hammer and bench vise. Nex,t the rear end is coming out for a good look over and new springs and I'll finish up scraping the slop from underneath.

This came out nice. Popped the cover to check the condition of the gears and this car was never abused judging on how great they looked. So it got the "send it" seal of approval and buttoned back up.

Well, I'm still at it. I've been chipping away at this anytime I get a chance to. It was nice that the mill was slow for awhile I got a lot accomplished. Working two 16 hour shifts and an 8 hour shift for the week was nice while it lasted. Anyways, I had to patch up the wheel wells, yes I smeared JB weld over the seams to seal up any pinholes. That will be cleaned up and painted. As far as the underside goes it's about 96% undercoating free. Now I'm scrubbing and degreasing before I paint it up.

Finally done underneath! My poor creeper took hell of a beating haha! Put a satin top coat on the bottom and the wheel wells got 3 coats of rust oleum farm and implement with a bit of enamel hardener, worked great on the stub frame, so we'll see how it holds up back here. Plan is to pecker around after work this week, get the leafs and rear end back in.

Nice '71 looks like it's coming along great.
I'm pretty much doing the same as you with mine, working on the undercarriage.
