I figured I'd create a tread to see what car everyone likes better/best out of the Sport Fury S/23 and GT. I'd like to know, what car you like over the other and what you like best about it if possible. For me, it's a real tough decision. I honestly cannot decide. They are both rare cars. If I had to choose though, I would say, S/23. They are just more rare than the GT. I'd like to hear from you. Post comments, opinions etc.

Are there production stats on S/23s made? I agree there were probably less made, but the survival rate was probably better. I had one of each.

The S/23 was nicely equipped with disc brakes, buckets, console, road wheels, A/C, better stereo, but had the 2bbl 318/904 open diff combo vs. the 440/727 limited slip. While the GT had the beefier suspension, the torsion bars were the same on both cars. The 318 with the A/C I guess made the nose heavy enough to require the bigger bars.

Driving each, the GT clearly feels more taut and cornered better. The power difference goes without saying. Anyone have an S/23 with a big block?

As I recall the S23 was a trim package while the GT had the goods. HP big blocks, HD suspension, stripes etc.

Who wants a car just because it is more rare?

There is nothing better on a S23 compared to a GT.
    Not technically.
    Cosmetics are the same

I remember reading a road test, might have been Road and Track, they featured a 440 Six Pack S23.

71Polara383- We're talking about the Sport Fury S/23 and GT here.

gwmicrocap- There were 666 440 GT's made, 61 6bbl GT's. For a total of about 727. There were 689 S/23's made, regardless of engine size. I know Multifury (on this site) has a big block S/23. My stepdad has a big block S/23 also. Here is a pic.

CRV- There was no such thing as a "Six Pack" S/23. It was never made. You must be thinking of a GT. As a "side note", on a Plymouth it is a 6 barrel. Six Pack, is a Dodge term. s23.jpg

See, big block. The 4bbl. This is a 1971 warranty block. The original 383 blew up under warranty. s23 engine.jpeg

My personal preference is a 1970 Sports Fury GT. Attached pic is the only surviving pic of it on my wedding day. Still miss that car.

I like the name S/23 better, but given the choice picking the GT and the 440 is an easy one.

I no longer own the book it was featured in, I'll have to do some searching. Remember also reading about the supposed 1 of 1 S23 440-6 made in a magazine, this was many moons ago. Having said that, I'll stand corrected if it's not the case. Six Pack/6 bbbl...my bad.
