I'm thinking of going with 15x8 steel rims for my 72 Polara, the most popular tire size seems to be 275/60/15. Anybody running this combination care to share your thoughts?

All you need is 7".
8" is too wide to guarantee a safe bead seal.
Plus cupping may shorten the tread life. It's small but.

On a 275? Not an issue. It's a 10" wide tire on an 8" rim. If it was a 7" wide tire, it might be a concern.

I have 275's on the back of my 66 with 8" rims and 4" back space. If I was to do it over again it would be 4.5" back space. 4" puts the tire VERY close to the skirt. Not sure how this will translate to a fuselage car. 8" on the front with a 275 might get into clearance issues so measure twice etc.

I have 235/70/15's on the front of mine on Road Wheels which are what, 6.5"? They don't rub.

Dad's 73 Polara was bought with 8" wheels and 275 60s on all fours and it looked ridiculous. 275 on the rear? No sweat.... but the fronts? What's the point?

There is a lot of vacant space in those rear wells...I like them filled with rubber

This is what my car will look like when (if) it's done... IMG_0294.jpgIMG_0299.jpgIMG_0309.jpg

The 8" steel wheels were standard equipment on 4X4 Ramchargers and Traildusters. I ran a set with 275's on the rear of a 69 GTX and with great effect. The same wheels are now on my brothers 68 Hemi Charger.

They work good on B bodys but no place for them on C bodys...... Just looks awkward.

I don't see a C body solely as a family car... I see what they can be and the masked breed that sometimes begs to be let loose and run.... 15x8s and fatties on the rear on some are required, others, not so much

The 255s look good, what size rim? Are they on all four corners or just the back?

Based on the bulge of the tyre, I'd say a 7" wide rim. If it were an 8", there would be less bulge.

Have always thought a lot about wheel/tyre combos, for a Fusie C-Body a nice size (without looking too out of place) is:

Front: 235/70R15 on 7" wide rim
Rear: 275/60R15 on 8" wide rim (4.5" BS)

Based on mathematics, overall diameters are the same so would look nice (235/70 tyre with 164.5mm wall, 275/60 tyre with 165mm. Again, this is purely based on calculation, am sure would vary depending on tyre manufacturer).

Have also thought of (sorry, am a muscle car man at heart lol):

Front: 235/70R15 on 8" wide rim
Rear: 275/60R15 on 10" wide rim (not sure on BS measurements here. Depends obviously on the year of car).

For a C think that the 295/50R15 tyre overall diameter is just not large enough. Too much gap between the wheel and arch.

Remember that the 1978+ Trans Am with the WS6 suspension package came with 8" wide rims with 225/70R15 tyres (similar in overall diameter to a 255/60R15) but I personally think that the 225 on an 8" rim is too narrow.

That black '72 Dodge just looks downright mean, good wheel/tyre combo. Any idea of what that lad has on there?

Currently have 255 70 15's on 7" steelies, all the way around, may be a tad wide for 7" rims, but I also like a wheel well filled with rubber, haven't drove the car much but may go with a 235 75 15 in the front due to clearance issues in tight turns. Mathematically really close to the same dia.

speakin of wheelz, anybody ever run tru-spoke wheels? Or are our cars too hefty for such wheels?
