When is a car no longer "original"?

In germany you got lots of locals in any bigger town who rebuilt radiators.
You can even choose the type pf net you want to have installed (3 rows or 4; tropical net etc). It is not cheap compared to buying a shitty aluminimum radiator but the looks of originality is worth it to me

Yes, OEM-look is important to me, as is performance. Thanks for the info.

got mine rebuilt three years ago. it was leaking and needed also a new net ..
was 250 € when I remember correctly so 300 $ .. that´s cheaper than a shitty aluminum
radiator i guess ..

Decided to have it recored. Thanks for all the input, will keep you posted!

The BoaB is a survivor--it survived constant pounding from the previous owner, then parked and vandalized by kids, left to rot and neglected for 43 years.
It then survived almost near death from being scrapped.
It survived numerous ,financial setbacks, spouse's job lay-off's and finally a divorce.

The BoaB is far from original. Yet,the motor, trans, and rear axle are numbers matching.
Sheet metal wise, front stub clip, the roof, trunk floor, floor pans, and front doors are "original". Everything else was replaced.
It is restored to like new stock appearing condition but not a trophy chaser nor a trailer queen.

Stock? Heck NO! Yet I took great detail to make the "modifications" look "factory stock" or "original".
The"modifications" I did are for reliability and to run on today's quality gas and keep cool in modern day climate.

As I will be doing my Barge on a Budget World Tour,my goal is to hit as many shows as possible.
A lot of shows that I did go to in the past really did not offer much for C's regarding "class".
I am not into the lawn chair races and don't care what class I get put into.
For Carlisle, I registered in stock C (with 4 modifications)
But I have more than 4 mods--but not obvious enough to be in the "custom"or "modified"class.
I don't care if I do not win or if a judge misjudges my car.
I want to be and will be at shows to show off my hard work.
That enjoy the people and the cars.
Getting to meet people who have been following the BoaB is icing on the cake.
That and the journey is more fun than the destination.

Barge on a Budget World Tour 2018 starts in a few months!!
By the time Winter comes I should have close to 10,000 miles on her!!

Glad to see you are ready to show it off. Like you I have made a number of modifications to my 1966 300. Since I also intend to drive it like you they are safety updates, (brakes, electrical, engine, ect). Hope to put it in the body shop this year and get it painted.

Thanks both -- I looked up Glen-Ray radiators, but they seem to specialize in 26" recoring. Suggestions?
Do you have a local radiator shop? Any good, competent shop can do a recore. If your tanks are not rotted out is can be done.

You're right. I guessed on your engine size, but I just looked up the 318; none listed. :(

Thank you for trying. I'd looked up the site you suggested after I'd read your post, but was unsuccessful as well. In fact I looked online far and wide but could not find a 19" radiator for my car, i.e., for a 1970 base Polara with 318 small block / no AC / no towing package (part number 2998951 -- that's the one stamped at the bottom of my original unit, and it matches the list here: Mopar Radiator Guide & Specifications 1962 to 1974).

For those interested, I DID find a NOS radiator for the 1969 counterpart of my car on eBay (that new old stock unit is still for sale as of this evening for $339 + S&H), but it is a different part number (2949047) and I confirmed this afternoon visually that the two are different (the hoses connect on different sides).

That's one of the reasons my preference was to go for recoring the original rad. The local C-body specialist who is helping me bring my car back on the road said its radiator could be recored. So, that's what I decided to do.

The support and the opening on my car seem to be 22", BTW, so the car could have accommodated a bigger radiator (see this thread/post here: Radiator/water pump Q for the best and brightest).

Glen-Ray's website states that they carry "some" 22-inch radiators, but I did not call them to check if they had one for the 1970) as I decided I wanted to keep the car as original as possible. I hope my experience with the radiator's performance matches the second owner's, which is to say, never to have a single issue with overheating.

A 19" radiator?

Yep. Had it measured yesterday. The opening in my car is 22" and the rad support can accommodate a 22" unit, but mine is a 19". Here are the radiator choices / part numbers for '69 and '70 Polaras with a 318:

Part # Year Body Size Engines Trans HVAC Notes
2949043 1969 C 26" 318 Both A/C
2949044 1969 C 22" 318 Both Heater
2949045 1969 C 26" 318 Both Heater With X51
2949047 1969 C 19" 318 Both Heater
2998951 1970 C 19" 318 Both Heater
2998952 1970 C 26" 318 Both A/C
2998953 1970 C 26" 318 Both Heater

I got the above info from a vendor (Mopar Radiator Guide & Specifications 1962 to 1974) when looking for a NOS unit and trying to understand the differences between 1969 and 1970 radiators. While googling, I found the exact same info on MyMopar (MyMopar.com - Radiator Specifications ).
